I was accepted to UC Berkeley and UIUC as a transfer student in Applied Mathematics for Fall 2018.
When I was a senior in high school, my parents encouraged me by saying, “Why don’t you pursue your dreams and challenge yourself in the U.S.?” Inspired by that, I decided to study abroad in California, imagining the heart of Silicon Valley.
At first, my parents and I struggled to find accurate information about studying in the U.S. We searched online and visited several agencies until we discovered Harvest College Prep. There, we learned about successful transfer cases and clear guidance for admission to top U.S. universities.
With Harvest’s help, I arrived in California in July right after high school graduation to take the placement test for Pasadena City College (PCC). Life in a foreign country — adapting to a new culture, using English daily — was not easy. However, I quickly adjusted thanks to the continuous support and encouragement from Mr. Kyung at Harvest College Prep. His academic guidance and timely advice gave me confidence and peace of mind to focus entirely on my studies.
Through his mentorship, I maintained excellent grades every semester and built strong self-discipline and motivation. Two years ago, I wondered if I could ever be admitted to UC Berkeley — now that dream has come true.
Of course, studying requires one’s own effort and perseverance. But having a clear goal and a mentor who truly cares made all the difference. I’m deeply grateful to Mr. Kyung for guiding me throughout my two years at PCC and helping me achieve this dream.
