I first learned about Harvest College Prep through research in the summer of 2014, which led me to enroll at Pasadena City College (PCC). I had originally planned to attend Diablo Valley College, but after realizing how important both GPA management and overall student life were, I chose Harvest College Prep — and met Mr. Kyung.
Even before the semester began, he helped me with placement tests, academic counseling, and step-by-step planning for my major. Although I had no confidence in math and didn’t enjoy it, with his guidance I found a new direction — Applied Mathematics, with my goal set on UC Berkeley.
At times, I tried to rush through everything, but Mr. Kyung always helped me slow down and focus on the bigger picture — not just transferring, but envisioning my path afterward. His detailed instruction in math, statistics, and economics helped me earn straight A’s (4.0 GPA) and ultimately an acceptance to UC Berkeley.
Through this experience, I realized that while everyone works hard, having the right mentor with expertise and insight makes all the difference. I’m deeply grateful to Mr. Kyung for his guidance, friendship, and support throughout my meaningful two and a half years at PCC.
